Description
‘Pearls’ of nutrition (with which comes wisdom!)- these hulled grains of barley are pretty as a picture. JIWA’S Organic Pearl Barley is minimally processed to retain its fibre and nutrition. These dainty pearls double up (in size & in taste!) when cooked, and are a great alternative to rice across meals. The high starch content makes cooked barley a great thickener for dishes, and ideal for risottos and even soups. The water barley is cooked in, is loaded with nutrients and aids in weight loss.
Storage & Shelf Life
Best before 6 months from date of manufacturing, fresher the better! Conventionally stored in tin boxes away from moisture and heat.
Cooking Method
- Rinse ¾ cup of Jiwa’s Pearl barley under running water till the water is clear.
- Add this to a saucepan with 6 cups of water, and let simmer for 25-30 minutes, or till the barley is cooked through.
- The pearls retain their shape and chewiness, yet become softer on the bite.
Serving Suggestion
Once barley is cooked through, Strain and reserve the water. Flavour with lemon juice and salt- and give your gut a treat! The cooked barley is great to add to a quick warm salad or soup too
